Years of uncertainty about the destination of the area around the Appelgaarde 2-4 and the adjacent Mariahoeve station now seems to have come to an end.
The municipality has launched a vision for the redevelopment of this area and gave local residents a preview of the plans in November 2019.
This has not exactly allayed the uncertainty among local residents. They were shown a sketch design of a building complex, which with a high tower block of 20 floors was reminiscent of the Amsterdam Zuidas. An adjacent railway building of 150 meters long and 7 storeys high, literally 3 meters from the track, was also shown.
Without the local residents actually being sufficiently involved in a preliminary phase, the large-scale project of approximately 450 homes appears to be further developed. With much more than a doubling of the number of homes and residents in the district, this has an enormous impact on the adjacent area.
The GaardenBelang platform, which has now been established, is preparing firmly for the upcoming participation discussions with the municipality, project developer and other interested parties.
The platform will work as strong as possible in close consultation with local residents in order to achieve a much more appropriate and less large-scale implementation.
It cannot and must not be the case that the municipality unilaterally determines the living environment of the residents without proper consultation.
You build and live livable together!
